Eugene Marten
Eugene Marten, 81, Loyal, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Colonial Center, Colby.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct 13, 2006, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Spencer. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, North Spencer. The Rev. Rebekah Tarrs will preside.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Marten, Janalee Marten, Jordan Marten, Jayme Marten, Michael Salter, Mark Salter and Michalle Abendroth. Honorary pallbearers will be Renee Blazio and Dena Chapman.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct 121, at Community Funeral Home, Spencer, and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Maurina/Community Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born May 15, 1925, in Edgar to William and Elsie (Schmidt) Marten. He attended Abbotsford schools. He and Arlene Seefeld were married Aug. 30, 1947.
She preceded him in death. Mr. Marten retired from farming in 1988. During that time he also hauled can milk, worked in a cheese factory, worked for Riplinger Box Board Factory and Packaging Corporation in Colby. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his children, Judy (Mike) Salter, Black Creek, Jerry (Dorothy) Marten, Unity and Terry (Sandy) Marten, Auburndale; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister Mabel Bunkelman, Chippewa Falls; and one brother, Bill (Arlene) Marten, Yucca Valley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene; one sister, Lorraine Kops; and one brother, Dwaine Marten.
